🚨 BT Redcare Has Closed – Is Your Fire Alarm Still Connected?
In case you missed the news, BT Redcare—the service used to send fire and security alarm signals to Alarm Receiving Centres (ARCs)—closed on 15 December 2025. The closure was originally planned for 1 August 2025, and BT pushed it back to December to give people more time to switch.
So what does that mean for your fire alarm today?
What happened to Redcare units?
- Redcare Next Generation Portfolio (NGP) units (Essential, Advanced and Ultimate) were migrated to AddSecure and carry on working—no hardware swap needed.
- Older Redcare Secure, Classic and GSM units stopped working when the service closed. If your alarm still has one of these, it may no longer be sending signals to your ARC.
Another deadline on the way: 31 January 2027
Separately, Openreach’s switch-off of the old analogue phone network (PSTN) completes on 31 January 2027. Any alarm dialler or communicator that still relies on a copper phone line will need to move to a digital/IP signalling service before then.
What should a Responsible Person do now?
If your fire alarm is (or was) monitored, don’t assume it’s still connected. We recommend you:
- Confirm your signalling path – find out in writing which signalling product your alarm uses and that it’s on a supported IP or dual-path service.
- Check your ARC connection has been tested – make sure a test signal has actually reached the Alarm Receiving Centre since the switch.
- Update your fire risk assessment and fire alarm log book – record the signalling arrangements and any changes.
- Tell your insurer – many policies depend on remote monitoring, so let them know what you have in place.
